Dear Delaware County Kennel Club members,

Heart to Heart Veterinary Cardiology Consultants, is a fully-mobile cardiology specialty service that uses the most advanced tools for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. We are pleased to serve pet owners throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania, offering all areas of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiology. Most importantly, to breeders this can mean the convenience of screening and subsequent certification of breeding stock with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals’ Congenital Cardiac Database or Animal Registry of Certified Health without the stress of a long drive to a specialty hospital.

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals’ recommendation for definitive diagnosis of congenital heart disease in dogs is through one of three ways:

 Echocardiography with Doppler studies

 Cardiac catheterization with angiocrardiography

 Post-mortem examination of the heart (necropsy)

Of these methods, echocardiography with Doppler is the only noninvasive technique and is also the preferred method for establishing a definitive diagnosis in dogs.

In this type of mobile screening situation, we do not incur the overhead costs associated with use of a large, fully-staffed hospital facility, thus we are able to discount prices to help breeders from shouldering all of the cost when trying to do the right thing by screening their breeding and potential breeding animals. As a reference, in a typical hospital setting, the cost of an exam and OFA echocardiogram screening is often between $400 and $700 per dog. We do require a minimum of 10 echocardiogram screenings to schedule an OFA congenital cardiac screening clinic.

Heart to Heart’s prices for OFA and ARCH screening are as follows:

 Auscultation $35

 Echocardiogram (includes auscultation at no charge)- 1 dog $200

 Echocardiogram (includes auscultation at no charge)- 2 dogs (each) $175

 Echocardiogram (includes auscultation at no charge)- 3 or more (each) $150

 Printed report of echocardiography and Doppler findings $25

If you would like to schedule an OFA congenital cardiac screening clinic for your club members, would like to offer screening at your next AKC show, or have further questions about Heart to Heart’s mobile cardiology services, please contact us at 330.257.3228 or heartvetconsultants@gmail.com.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Best Regards,

Kirstin N. Boddy, DVM, MS DACVIM (Cardiology)
